Tumblelog brought to you by an ordinary queer, nerdy, UU, museum-employed, tree hugger.

Ugh.

You can guess about how congenial a conversation with my father gets when his response to me bringing up the Uganda’s possible death penalty for homosexuality is “well, they probably want to stop the spread of AIDS.”  Which only lead to voicing more stupid and uninformed opinions developed in the 1980s, just like most of his ideas about gay people.

I’m never sure if he’s intentionally pushing my buttons, or if he just doesn’t pay  enough attention to know that his very liberal and political, 80% gay daughter might have some issues with saying it’s okay to put people to death for having sex with people of the same sex, as long as it’s a public health issue.  Or that gay sex is the major way that AIDS is spread.

To be honest, sometimes I hope he’s trying to push my buttons, but I think it’s probably the latter.  My problems come from a place of privilege, but they are real in my life.
