As a former high school teacher, I can confidently say that teachers sometimes do ship students. Evidence: Shipping a couple pairs of students myself, teachers gossiping about students (and this can be good and bad, of course), and on occasion, even try their hand at matchmaking via seating charts, grouping on projects, etc. We teach because we care about students, and peer-peer interaction is a huge part of their lives.
